Technology Development Projects

The company hopes to undertake research on problems affecting the development of the land reform/restitution and previously disadvantaged farmers. It hopes to participate on a voluntary basis to any National trials which addresses the needs of small–holder farmers.

The most expensive inputs in terms of direct costs and environmental impact are fertilizers and pesticides. This makes it worth while to look at alternatives; waste recycling and integrated pest management.

Currently, at the farm, animal manure is been used as a soil ameliorant through composting thus reducing the cost of nutrient replenishment in vegetable production Possibilities of hastening the decomposition with red earth worm and micro organisms are been looked into. Peking ducks are reared to use their nutrient enriched ponds as liquid fertiliser which is applied through the drip systems.

The company has strategic alliances with institutions of Higher Learning in the Limpopo Province to assist in the development of technologies for farmers. Seminar and workshops will be held at the farm from time to time to expose such technologies

The company is looking at a possibility of conducting trials on Bambhara beans, groundnuts, cowpeas and Lucerne. An involvement of the ARC Grain Centre is still sought.
